Venezuelan Christmas
Venezuela and their people have a lot of Christmas traditions that go from food until street celebrations. For example, in Merida people do "La Paradura del Niño" which is a traditional act that is done in some small towns, where people from all the towns seek for the baby Jesus and celebrate the birth of Jesus. Trujillo and Táchira also have this custome. In Zulia, specifically in Maracaibo, people celebrate Christmas with "La Bajada de la Chinita" which is a celebration where people goe to "La Basílica" and stay all night long singing and celebrating with the traditional music from that state: "La Gaita". Often the celebration continues for two or three more days.
Regarding the traditional food, we prepare during this Holiday Hallacas which is a plate that the natives used to do with the leftover of the food. Nowadays we make it with a lot of ingredients like corn flour, raisons, olive, jam and all you want to put in it! People do it with all the family and in some cases with friends. We also eat "Pan de Jamón" which is made with ham, raisons and olive all this wrapped in corn flour dough.
All these traditions have remained through the years despite adversity because we know how to enjoy Chritmas holidays!
